Shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police were called to the store in the 11000 block of Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton to investigate reported shoplifters.

Upon arrival at the business, they spotted several suspects leaving the store with stolen merchandise before fleeing to Safeway on Georgia Avenue, where they were ultimately tracked down.

One of the suspects, whose name was not released by police on Friday afternoon, led to the seizure of a Polymer 80 9mm handgun with no serial number, officials said. They also recovered some of the merchandise stolen from. Dick’s.

The minor was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with theft and illegal possession of firearm offenses. No information about his next court date was disclosed by investigators.
